This project is being completed to increase the level of protection against basement backups from elevated flows during wet weather events. This project is designed to convey a 1-hour duration rainfall event with a rainfall intensity of 2 inches per hour. Construction is occurring on North Maryland Avenue, East Stratford Court, and North Shepard Avenue. For a map of the construction area, see the project website. 

 The roadway will be repaved. New curb and gutter, carriage walks, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian curb ramps will be installed. For more information on the proposed construction, see the PIM presentation. 

Construction is estimated to occur from March 2023 to December 2023. If turf restoration is unable to be completed by December 2023, turf restoration will occur Spring 2024. All pavement is planned to be installed in 2023. See the project schedule for a timeline of construction. 

 Yes. All trees removed as a part of the project will be replaced. 

All lead water services within the project limits are being replaced with copper as a part of the Lead Service Line Replacement Program. To see if your water service is lead visit the Lead Service Dashboard.

Property owners will be notified 48 hours in advance of any planned water shutoff. However, during utility installation there may be interim periods where water for your property is shutoff. This will be temporary, and water should be reestablished shortly after.  

As a part of construction, streetlights are being replaced and several streetlights will be removed and reinstalled. The Contractor is required to provide temporary lighting during replacement, however there may be times when no lighting is present for several days.  

If your water service is lead on the private side, the Contractor will plan to coordinate with you before replacement. The Contractor is required to take at least two preconstruction photographs of the existing conditions where the service is being replaced. The replacement of the water service requires drilling through a foundation wall or the removal of a section of the basement floor. It is also recommended that residents do not park vehicles on the street during construction.  

The Contractor will strive to not impact mail delivery and refuse pickup. If refuse pickup is impacted, the Contractor will temporarily label refuse containers with addresses and move them to an accessible area for the refuse truck.  

Local traffic will be kept open throughout construction. If the roadway is closed for any reason due to construction, the Contractor will properly direct you to your intended destination. During asphalt replacement, the roadway will be closed for an interim period. When needed, on-street parking permits will be hand delivered to residents. This will allow vehicles to park outside of the project area overnight. The Contractor will keep at least one side of the street’s sidewalk open at all times. 

When driveway aprons are removed, gravel will be added to provide access. A 24-to-48- hour notice will be provided to homeowners when their driveway is inaccessible due to installing the new driveway or installing curb and gutter. There will be no access to driveways for a period of 10-14 days while the concrete cures. The Contractor will notify residents when driveways are not accessible due to utility installation.
